With its selective damping system, the suspension is constantly and variably adjusted to suit road conditions and your driving style. In response to weaker shocks, it reduces the damping force individually at each wheel and enhances tyre noise and vibration. When the vehicle encounters more pronounced uneven sections of road, the system steps up the damping effect and can increase driving stability. The steering also has a more direct ratio and, in conjunction with the manual transmission, short-throw shifting means even more precise control.

These include the HOLD function, which acts like a parking brake and can be activated by briefly depressing the brake pedal. The HOLD function keeps the vehicle from rolling unintentionally when waiting at a traffic light or in stop-and-go traffic. The hill-start assist function prevents the vehicle from rolling back unexpectedly on inclines when moving from the brake to the gas pedal. The "brake drying" function ensures that full braking power is available even under wet conditions. And with the "priming" function, the system reduces the brake response time.

If the driver appears to be falling asleep momentarily at the wheel, the ATTENTION ASSIST system suggests taking a break. It monitors the driver’s behaviour – primarily using a special steering angle sensor on the steering column. If the profile deviates from the previously measurement, visual and audible warnings can be issued.

When parking or looking for a parking space, the driver can call on the assistance of the PARKTRONIC system. Ultrasonic sensors automatically measure the length of parking spaces parallel to the car when moving at a speed of 30 km/h or less. If a suitable space is found, Parking Guidance then provides precise instructions on the correct steering angle and points at which to turn.

The preventive occupant protection system PRE-SAFE® system can recognise critical driving scenarios at an early stage and activate safety systems that can reduce the chance of injury to vehicle occupants. This is based on PRE-SAFE® monitoring sensor data from systems such as ESP® and BAS and identifying situations such as noticeable oversteer/understeer, critical steering manoeuvres at high speeds, panic braking and emergency stops.

In critical driving situations, the systems can respond within fractions of a second by tightening the seat belts, moving the front passenger seat into a more favourable crash position (in conjunction with the optional memory package), and closing the side windows and optional panoramic glass sunroof. 

Activated in the event of a rear-end collision, NECK-PRO head restraints for driver and front passenger can reduce the risk of sustaining a whiplash injury. If a collision occurs, they ensure that the head receives support and the load on the spine is reduced at an early stage by employing a spring mechanism to move the head restraints forwards and upwards. The restraints can be manually returned to the original position after activation. 

Comprising automatic interior lights when unlocking the vehicle, reading lights for driver and front passenger, and ambient lighting for the centre armrest, front footwells and door handles. 

The memory package makes frequent switches between drivers much more convenient. It stores individual settings for the driver’s seat and front-passenger seat for up to three people. The driver simply chooses a setting at the push of a button and the seats (including both electrically adjustable four-way lumbar supports), steering column and exterior mirrors are automatically restored to the previously saved positions. The PRE-SAFE® positioning function can also move the front-passenger seat into a more favourable crash position in critical situations.
